One of the first questions guests ask me after arriving at their holiday rental in Jávea is: "Where's the nearest supermarket?" After ten years living here, I've shopped at every single one — and there's more choice than you might expect for a town this size. Whether you're stocking up a villa kitchen for a week or just grabbing breakfast supplies, this guide covers every supermarket in Jávea, their opening hours in June and July, parking, and my honest opinions on each one.
The Main Supermarkets in Jávea
Mercadona — The Workhorse
There are two Mercadona branches in Jávea, and for most holidaymakers they'll be the go-to. The larger one sits on Avenida del Pla, just inland from the port area, with a decent car park that rarely fills up even in August. The second is on the road towards Gata de Gorgos, more useful if you're staying in the Tosalet or Balcón al Mar urbanisations.
Mercadona is genuinely excellent value. Their own-brand Hacendado range is solid — the olive oils, tinned fish, and fresh pasta are particularly good. In summer they stock decent rosé wines for under €3 that'll embarrass bottles costing twice that back home. Opening hours in June: Monday to Saturday 9am–9:30pm, closed Sunday.

Find rentals →My tip: Go Tuesday or Wednesday mornings to avoid the weekend crowds. The fish counter has fresh local catch most days — ask the staff what came in that morning.
Consum — The Local Champion
Consum is a Valencian cooperative chain and I'd argue it punches above its weight. The Jávea branch is on Calle Ponent in the port zone, walkable from many apartments in the Arenal area. Stock levels are good, the fresh produce section is well-organised, and they tend to carry more regional Valencian products than Mercadona — look out for all i pebre paste, local arròs (rice varieties), and excellent regional wines from the Marina Alta DO.
Opening hours in June: Monday to Saturday 9am–9pm. Closed Sunday.
Supercor (El Corte Inglés) — The Premium Option
On the CV-734 heading into Jávea from the AP-7, you'll spot the Supercor — the smaller supermarket format of El Corte Inglés. This is where I come when I want something specific: imported cheeses, decent wine selection, fresh sushi trays, or quality charcuterie. It's noticeably pricier than Mercadona but the product range is genuinely different. They also have a decent bakery section and the bread is a cut above.
Opening hours: Monday to Saturday 9am–9:30pm, open Sundays 10am–3pm — which makes it the most useful option if you arrive on a Sunday and the cupboards are bare.
Lidl — The Budget Powerhouse
Lidl sits near the industrial estate on the Gata road. If you're self-catering on a budget — or just clever with money — Lidl in Spain in summer is spectacular. The middle aisle changes weekly and in June you'll find beach gear, snorkel sets, and camping equipment alongside the food. Their Spanish wine selection for under €5 is frankly absurd in terms of quality. Fresh fruit and veg is reliably cheap and often locally sourced.
Opening hours: Monday to Saturday 9am–9pm. Closed Sunday.
Aldi — New and Worth Knowing
Jávea's Aldi is relatively recent and sits close to the Lidl on the same commercial stretch. Similar price points, slightly different product range — their Specially Selected premium range is worth exploring for things like smoked salmon, charcuterie, and speciality cheeses. I find their fruit and veg section slightly less reliable than Lidl's but the bakery items (freshly baked croissants, baguettes) are very good.
Spar — Convenience Wins
There are several Spar outlets dotted around Jávea's urbanisations — one near Balcón al Mar, one in the Arenal area close to the beach. They're smaller, pricier than the big chains, but invaluable when you just need milk, sunscreen, and a bottle of wine without driving to the main supermarket strip. Summer opening hours are often extended to 9pm or later.
Specialist Food Shops Worth Knowing
La Sirena (frozen food): On the commercial strip near Mercadona. Brilliant for frozen prawns, calamari, and prepared Spanish dishes. Tourists often overlook it but locals shop here constantly.
The Mercado Municipal (covered market): In the old town on Plaça del Mercat, open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings until around 2pm. This is where you get the best local tomatoes, peppers straight from Valencian farms, artisan cheeses, and jamón sliced to order. If you're renting a villa with a kitchen and care about cooking properly, make this a weekly habit.
Carnicerías and fruterías: Scattered through El Pueblo and the port zone, these independent butchers and greengrocers often beat supermarket quality on fresh items. The butcher on Calle Virgen de los Desamparados does an exceptional cut of local cordero (lamb).
Practical Tips for Grocery Shopping in Jávea in June
Arrive early in peak season. By mid-July, Mercadona on a Saturday afternoon can test your patience. June is still manageable but Fridays get busy as weekend visitors arrive.
Bring your own bags. Plastic bags cost €0.10–€0.25 across all chains. Keep a foldable bag in your beach bag.
Check the special offers section. Spanish supermarkets always have a reduced-price section for products near their use-by date — useful if you're cooking that day.
Wine and spirits are remarkably cheap. A good Rioja Crianza from Mercadona is around €4.50. A bottle of local Muscat from the Marina Alta — perfect chilled on a warm evening — costs around €3–5.
Parking: Mercadona (Avda. del Pla) has its own free car park. Supercor has ample parking. Consum in the port area can be trickier — use the public car park on Calle Ponent.
Staying in a Self-Catering Villa or Apartment?
If you're browsing holiday rentals in Jávea and planning to self-cater for at least part of your stay — which I'd recommend, because cooking with fresh local produce in a villa with a terrace is one of the genuine pleasures of a Jávea holiday — then you'll find the supermarket infrastructure here is genuinely excellent for a town of this size.
Booking your villa or apartment directly through JV Properties saves you up to 18% compared to booking through Airbnb or Booking.com. That difference pays for quite a few bottles of very decent Spanish wine at Mercadona prices.
