If you've spent any time in Jávea, you'll know that half the magic of this place isn't on land — it's out on the water. The Cap de Sant Antoni and Cap de la Nau form one of the most dramatic stretches of Mediterranean coastline anywhere on the Costa Blanca, and the only way to truly appreciate it is from the sea. Whether you want to hire a kayak for the morning, join a sunset sailing trip, or learn to scuba dive in crystal-clear water, Jávea delivers. After ten years living here, I still get a kick out of watching the cliffs turn golden from the deck of a boat.
June is arguably the best month to get out on the water. The sea temperature has climbed to a very comfortable 22–23°C, the summer crowds haven't yet reached peak intensity, and the tramontana winds are relatively rare. Book your activities now — the good operators fill up fast from mid-June onwards.
Boat Trips from Jávea Port
The Puerto de Jávea (Xàbia) is the obvious starting point. Several companies run daily excursions departing from the port, typically between 10am and 11am with afternoon returns.

Find rentals →La Cova Tallada is the undisputed highlight of any boat trip here. This collapsed sea cave carved into the limestone cliffs near Granadella is simply spectacular — bright turquoise water, dramatic rock arches, and you can moor up and swim directly into it. You'll also pass by the Cova dels Orgues, a quieter sea cave further along the Montgó massif coastline that most tourists never see from the road.
Xàbia Boat Charter and Sea Experience Javea both run excellent half-day trips that take in these caves along with snorkelling stops at Portitxol and the area around La Granadella. Prices run roughly €40–55 per adult for a shared trip. For something more flexible, private boat hire for a half day starts around €250–350 depending on the vessel — genuinely worth splitting between a group of six or eight.
If you prefer something more structured, Mundo Marino (also operating from Dénia but stopping in Jávea waters) runs glass-bottomed catamaran trips that work brilliantly with younger children.
Kayaking and Paddleboarding (SUP)
Honestly, kayaking around the Cap de Sant Antoni headland is one of my favourite things to do in Jávea, full stop. You can rent kayaks from La Grava beach or join a guided tour from the port area.
Kayak Jávea runs superb 2–3 hour guided sea kayaking tours that paddle through sea caves accessible only to small craft. The route through the rock arches north of La Grava is something you simply cannot do on foot. Morning departures (8:30am) are best — the sea is glassy, the light is extraordinary, and you're back before the midday heat hits. Cost: around €35–45 per person.
For paddleboarding, the sheltered bay at Playa de la Barraca (just north of the port) is ideal for beginners. Jávea SUP rents boards by the hour (around €15) and also offers yoga-on-SUP sessions on calm mornings — yes, it's exactly as good as it sounds.
Scuba Diving in Jávea
Jávea sits within the Cabo de San Antonio Marine Reserve, one of the most protected and biodiverse dive sites on Spain's Mediterranean coast. This is a serious selling point. You'll find posidonia meadows, moray eels, octopus, sea bream in enormous schools, and occasionally the odd sunfish drifting through.
Dive Jávea (based near the port) is the operator I'd recommend without hesitation — professional instructors, well-maintained equipment, and they genuinely know where the good stuff is. A discover scuba dive for beginners costs around €60–70 including all equipment. Certified divers can join guided dives from €35 per dive without equipment. The dive site off Illeta dels Balanets (the small island visible from La Grava) is consistently excellent.
Sailing and Sunset Cruises
Jávea's sailing scene is underrated. The Real Club Náutico de Jávea has been here since the 1960s and the harbour has a genuinely lovely atmosphere on summer evenings. Several private skippers offer sunset sailing trips — typically 2.5–3 hours departing around 6pm, returning after the sun drops behind Montgó. Prices start around €50–60 per person on shared trips.
Sailing Jávea and a handful of independent charter skippers (worth asking at the port directly) offer half and full-day charters with snorkelling stops included. If sailing is your thing, June is perfect: predictable afternoon breezes, warm water for swimming, and long daylight hours.
Jet Ski, Banana Boat & Classic Beach Fun
In June the beach concessions at Playa del Arenal start operating their summer programmes. Jet ski hire, banana boat rides, and inflatable water parks appear offshore. It's not what Jávea is primarily about — the town deliberately keeps this relatively low-key compared to Benidorm — but it's there if you want it, especially useful when you have teenagers who need something louder than a kayak.
Practical Tips
- Book at least 48 hours ahead in June, and a week ahead if you're travelling in July or August
- Morning departures are almost always better — calmer seas, better light, less UV exposure
- Bring water shoes — most rocky entry points are covered in sea urchins (I learned this the hard way)
- Sea conditions: Check the Puertos del Estado app for wind and wave forecasts before booking same-day activities
- Parking at the port: Use the underground car park beneath the port promenade — around €2/hour, much better than fighting for roadside spaces
Where to Stay for Easy Water Access
If you're planning to spend serious time on the water, staying near the port area or La Grava beach makes obvious sense. A holiday rental in Jávea within walking distance of the port means no early morning parking stress — and trust me, that matters more than you think once you've tried to park at La Grava at 9am in August.
Booking direct through JV Properties saves you up to 18% compared to Airbnb and Booking.com — that's potentially the cost of a private boat charter right there. Browse our Jávea properties and filter by proximity to the port or beach to find your perfect base.
The sea is waiting. June is the moment.
