If you're searching for the perfect family beach holiday in Spain, Albir with kids might just be the answer you didn't know you were looking for. Tucked between Benidorm and Altea on the Costa Blanca, this small but mighty resort punches well above its weight when it comes to family-friendly travel. I've lived here for ten years and watched hundreds of families arrive looking slightly frazzled from the airport run — and leave with tanned, happy kids begging to come back next year.
Here's everything you need to know about bringing the kids to Albir in June 2026.
Why Albir Is One of the Best Family Resorts on the Costa Blanca
The first thing parents notice about Albir Beach (Playa del Albir) is the pebbles — and yes, that's actually a good thing when you have little ones. Unlike fine sandy beaches that end up in nappies, ears, and lunchboxes, the smooth grey pebbles here stay put. The sea is exceptionally calm, clear, and shallow for a good 20–30 metres out. In June, the water temperature hovers around 22–24°C — warm enough for kids to be in all morning without a fuss.

The Best Family Activities in Albir
1. The Albir Lighthouse Walk — Easy Enough for Children
The trail along the Sierra Helada to the Punta Bombarda lighthouse is genuinely one of the most magical short walks on the Costa Blanca. The path is well-maintained, mostly flat, and shaded in parts. Kids aged 5 and up manage it easily — it's about 2.5km each way. Take water, trainers (not flip flops), and a hat. The reward? Staggering views over Benidorm, Altea, and on a clear day, Ibiza on the horizon. My own kids used to count the lizards en route. Record to beat: 47.
2. Snorkelling in the Marine Reserve
The waters off the Sierra Helada are a protected marine reserve, which means the sea life here is genuinely impressive — sea bream, wrasse, octopus, the occasional moray eel lurking under rocks. For kids who can swim, this is unforgettable. Hire snorkelling gear from one of the beach rental stands for around €5–8 per set. The rocky coves at the northern end of the beach are the best spots, with visibility often exceeding 10 metres in June.
3. Paddleboarding & Kayaking
The beach rental stands on Playa del Albir offer paddleboards and kayaks by the hour (roughly €15–20 per hour). Younger kids can sit on the board in front of a parent — the calm conditions in June make this totally doable even with a nervous 4-year-old. It's one of those activities where the kids look up about 40 minutes in and say "can we stay a bit longer?"
4. Cycling the Promenade & Beyond
Albir's flat seafront promenade connects seamlessly with the coastal path towards Altea, making it ideal for a family bike ride. Several rental shops in town offer children's bikes, tag-alongs, child seats, and cargo bikes. A 3km ride to the Altea old town — stopping for a gelato — is a perfect half-morning activity for families. Check our cycling guide for Albir for more route ideas.
5. Terra Mítica & Terra Natura — Day Trips Worth the Drive
Benidorm is literally 10 minutes away by car, and it's home to two excellent theme parks. Terra Mítica is the big one — Mediterranean-themed rides, water slides, and enough spectacle to fill a full day. Terra Natura is the zoo/wildlife park next door, better suited to younger children (ages 2–8). In June, go early — by 11am it's warm, and by 1pm the queues can be long. Both parks offer family ticket discounts, and I'd recommend booking online the day before.
6. Aqualandia Water Park, Benidorm
If your kids are between 4 and 14, a day at Aqualandia is almost mandatory. It's one of the best water parks in Spain — the slides are genuinely thrilling, the wave pool is massive, and the toddler zone is well-designed. Pack a picnic (outside food is allowed) and go on a weekday if possible. From Albir, it's a 10-minute drive or a short bus ride.
7. Altea Old Town — Surprisingly Kid-Friendly
Altea's cobbled hilltop old town is just 5km from Albir and absolutely worth a visit, even with little ones. The blue-domed church, the labyrinthine alleyways full of artisan shops, and the ice cream parlours make it a fun afternoon out. Go late afternoon when it's cooler and the light is golden. Kids love the cats that live in the old town — there are dozens of them.
Where to Eat in Albir with Kids
Albir is genuinely family-friendly in its dining scene. Kids are welcome everywhere, high chairs are usually available, and no one looks at you funny for showing up at 6:30pm with a toddler. A few personal favourites:
- La Cava: Relaxed restaurant on the promenade with a great kids' menu and pasta dishes that even the fussiest eaters approve of.
- El Pescador de l'Albir: Fresh fish, simple grilled options, and tables right by the sea. Kids love watching the boats.
- Heladería Xocolat (on Avinguda del País Valencià): Proper artisan ice cream. Mandatory after every beach session in our house.

Practical Tips for Families Visiting Albir in June
Sun protection is non-negotiable. June sun on the Costa Blanca is serious — SPF 50 on kids, reapply every 2 hours, and get them under shade or back to the apartment between 1pm and 4pm. The beach gets very hot underfoot by midday — those pebbles conduct heat. Bring water shoes.
June is genuinely the best time to visit with children — the resort is busy but not overwhelmed, the sea is warm, and the school holiday crowds haven't arrived yet. Accommodation prices are noticeably lower than July and August. If you can travel the first two weeks of June, you'll have near-perfect conditions.
Supermarkets and pharmacies: There are two Mercadona supermarkets within easy reach of Albir — essential for stocking up your apartment with snacks, sun cream, and all the other things you inevitably forget to pack. The pharmacy on Calle Lepanto stocks children's medicines, nappy brands you'll recognise, and Compeed for post-hike blisters.
Nap time tip: Albir is quiet in the afternoon. Most locals and experienced visitors do a 2-hour rest between 2pm and 4pm. Even if the kids won't sleep, it's a good window to be back at the apartment with the shutters down and the air-con on.
