Calpe with kids is, honestly, one of the best family holiday choices on the entire Costa Blanca — and I say that after ten years of living here and watching thousands of families arrive wide-eyed and leave already planning their return. The Peñón de Ifach rock looming over turquoise water, beaches with calm shallow entries, a old town kids actually want to explore, and an ice cream shop on nearly every corner. If you're planning a family holiday to Calpe in June 2026, you've picked the perfect month: school's still in session across northern Europe, so beaches are quieter, temperatures hover around 27–29°C, and everything is open without peak-August chaos.
Here's everything you need to know, from the best beaches for toddlers to what to do when it rains (yes, it occasionally does).
The Best Beaches in Calpe for Families
Not all beaches are created equal when you're hauling a bag of inflatables, Factor 50, and a three-year-old with strong opinions.

Find rentals →Playa de la Fossa (Playa Levante) is the undisputed family champion. It's long, wide, and the water is so shallow you can walk 30 metres out and still be knee-deep. The northern end near the promenade has beach volleyball, a children's playground right on the sand, sunbed and parasol hire, and multiple chiringuitos. Toilets and showers? Yes. Lifeguards in summer? Yes. This is your base.
Playa del Arenal-Bol is tucked slightly behind the Peñón and feels more sheltered. The water here is incredibly calm and clear — it's enclosed enough that waves are minimal, which younger kids absolutely love. There are a few small restaurants behind the beach too, so lunch doesn't require a military march back to your apartment.
Cala El Racó is for slightly older, more adventurous kids (8+). It's a small rocky cove, brilliant for snorkelling — we've spotted octopus, sea bream and even the occasional moray eel here. Bring water shoes.

We've covered restaurants in depth in our Calpe restaurants guide, but for families specifically:
- La Tartería (Casco Antiguo) does brilliant homemade pastries and sandwiches for breakfast — kids adore the chocolate croissants.
- Restaurante Bahía near Arenal beach has a proper kids' menu and enough space between tables that you don't feel like you're ruining everyone else's dinner.
- The Mercadona supermarket on Avenida de Ejércitos Españoles is your best friend for self-catering — fresh bread, local fruit, good wine for the parents.
Practical Family Tips for Calpe
Getting there: If you're flying into Alicante (ALC), Calpe is about 75 minutes by car. A hire car is genuinely worth it with kids — Calpe's bus connections are fine for adults but tricky with pushchairs and beach gear.
Parking: In June it's still manageable. The car park at Playa Fossa fills by 10am in peak summer — aim to arrive before 9:30am or use the larger car park near the port and walk (10 mins).
Nap logistics: The best thing about holiday rentals in Calpe versus hotels is having your own space — kids can nap while adults sit on the terrace with a cold beer. Most of our properties sleep families comfortably, many with private pools. Booking direct through JV Properties saves you up to 18% compared to Airbnb, which over a week adds up to a decent day out.
Health: The nearest hospital with a paediatric unit is in Dénia (20 mins north) or Benidorm (25 mins south). The local health centre (Centro de Salud) in Calpe handles minor emergencies. Travel insurance is non-negotiable with kids.
Sun: In June, UV index regularly hits 9–10. Reapply sunscreen every 90 minutes, enforce a siesta break between 1pm and 4pm, and keep hats on under-5s at all times.
When to Visit Calpe with Kids
June is genuinely one of the best months. July and August are hotter (35°C+), more crowded, and significantly more expensive. June gives you full summer weather, open restaurants and attractions, calm seas, and prices that haven't hit their August peak. The sea temperature in June is around 22–24°C — perfectly swimmable, even for children who claim it's too cold.
Easter week (Semana Santa) is also popular with families but accommodation goes fast.
