If you're searching for the most romantic destination on the Costa Blanca, stop scrolling — Moraira for couples is about as close to perfect as it gets. I've lived here for ten years, and I still catch myself standing on the castle headland at dusk thinking: this place was made for two. Unlike the mega-resort strip of Benidorm or the party-heavy vibe of Calpe's beaches, Moraira has quietly built a reputation as the Costa Blanca's most refined, intimate escape. It's small enough to feel personal, beautiful enough to take your breath away, and just lively enough that you won't be staring at each other in silence after 9pm.
Here's everything you need to plan the perfect couples' holiday in Moraira — sunsets, private coves, candlelit dinners, wine country day trips, and where to stay to make it all work.
Why Moraira Works So Well for Couples
Size matters when it comes to romance. Moraira's old town is compact — you can walk from the fishing harbour to the castle walls in fifteen minutes — which means it feels yours in a way that big resorts never do. The streets are lined with bougainvillea rather than souvenir shops. The pace is languid. Nobody is in a rush here, and that mood is contagious.

Find rentals →The town also sits at a sweet spot in terms of crowd level. June is genuinely my favourite month to visit with a partner — the water is warm (around 22°C), the tourist hordes of July and August haven't yet arrived, and the restaurants are fully open without being rammed. You can still get a table at El Portet on a Friday night without booking three weeks ahead. Just.
Sunset Spots That Will Actually Move You
Let me be specific, because "great sunsets" is what every travel blog says about every coastal town in Spain. In Moraira, the best spots are:
Cap d'Or lighthouse headland — take the coastal path north from Playa El Portet and walk 25 minutes to reach this dramatic clifftop. Bring a bottle of local Vall de Pop rosé and a blanket. The light here in June is extraordinary — soft gold until past 9pm.
The castle terrace (Castillo de Moraira) — the walk up is short and the reward is a panoramic view south along the coastline. Go around 8:30pm in June for the best angle. It's free, it's quiet, and it consistently makes people gasp.
El Portet beach at golden hour — this is Moraira's most sheltered cove, calm as a lake on most June evenings. The chiringuito here serves excellent cold rosé. Spread a sarong on the sand and let the evening happen.
Romantic Restaurants Worth Dressing Up For
Moraira punches well above its weight on the dining front for such a small town. For a proper romantic dinner, I'd point you toward three places depending on your mood:
Baret de Moraira — a Michelin-recommended address that local couples treat as their special-occasion spot. The terrace overlooks the castle. Order the arroz a banda (rice cooked in fish stock — a Valencian staple done properly) and share a dessert. Book ahead, especially weekends.
La Seu Restaurante — Mediterranean-fusion in a lovely courtyard setting in the old town. The menu changes seasonally and the wine list includes some excellent DO Alicante bottles you won't find at home. More relaxed than Baret but still genuinely special.
El Portet beach restaurants at night — when the day-trippers have gone home, the beach restaurants at El Portet transform into genuinely intimate dinner spots. Feet in the sand, candles on the tables, the sea lapping twenty metres away. Bring a cardigan — June evenings have a gentle breeze off the water.
Private Coves: Your Own Piece of Mediterranean
One of the most romantic things about Moraira is that you don't have to fight for space. The town has a handful of smaller coves that, even in June, feel almost private. Cala Andrago is my top recommendation for couples — it's a fifteen-minute walk south along the cliff path from the town beach, small enough that it holds maybe forty people, and the water is a genuinely startling shade of turquoise. Go on a weekday morning and you may have it nearly to yourselves.
Cala del Advocat is another gem — accessible by boat or a more adventurous clifftop path. Arriving by kayak (rentable from the harbour) makes it feel like a proper discovery.
A Day Trip Made for Two: Jalón Valley Wine Route
Twenty minutes inland from Moraira, the Jalón Valley (Vall de Pop in Valencian) is one of Spain's lesser-known wine-growing regions — and it's stunning. The valley is carpeted with Muscat vines, almond groves, and orange trees, and the villages of Jalón and Parcent are genuinely lovely.
For couples, I'd suggest a late morning drive up, stopping at Bodegas Xaló — a cooperative winery where you can taste and buy excellent Muscat and rosé for very reasonable prices. Have lunch at one of the village restaurants, then meander back through Benissa's old town for a late afternoon explore. The whole thing costs almost nothing and feels miles from the tourist coast.
Where to Stay: Villas & Apartments for Couples
For a truly romantic holiday, you want your own space — not a hotel corridor and a buffet breakfast. A private villa or apartment with a terrace and, ideally, a pool completely changes the dynamic. Morning coffee in your dressing gown with a view of the sea. Wine on the terrace at 11pm. That's the Moraira couples' experience.
Browse our Moraira holiday rentals and you'll find everything from sleek modern apartments in the town centre to hillside villas with infinity pools looking south towards Calpe's Peñón de Ifach. Booking direct through JV Properties saves you up to 18% compared to Airbnb or Booking.com — and you get to talk to people who actually know these properties and can match you to the right one.

Practical Notes for June
- Weather: expect highs of 28-30°C, sea temperature around 22°C, virtually zero rain. Pack light but bring a thin layer for evenings.
- Crowds: manageable in June — the busy weeks of late July and August haven't arrived. Book restaurants Friday/Saturday evenings.
- Getting around: Moraira is best explored on foot or by bicycle in the old town. Rent a car for the Jalón Valley and wider day trips.
- Budget: two people can eat a lovely dinner with wine for €60-80 at a mid-range restaurant. Fine dining at Baret runs €100-130 for two with wine.
